When he resurfaced, he was on his back, floating along easily. Kai reached up to cross his arms behind his head, squirting water that he had accidentally gotten in his mouth out between his teeth. When he was sure there was none left, he glanced at Daisy from the corner of his eye, grinning.

“C’mon, the water is perfect for relaxing! You can get some sun, too, if you want.” His eyes lingered on her before he turned them away in a show of respect that would probably go unnoticed; she didn’t seem to realize just how pretty she was. And he wasn’t sure she realized what she looked like with her shirt and shorts all soaked through.

Daisy had already stood and was wading a bit closer. Now that she was used to the water, it felt nice in the hot sun.

“That sounds like a good idea, doesn’t it.” Although she didn’t quite catch why he was looking at her, she did notice. She looked down at her soaked clothes and assumed he was worried about that. She shrugged, smiling in a gesture that said “it’s okay” and laid back in the water herself. Daisy closed her eyes, trying to float up, but her face ended up looking strained. Her legs were still touching the bottom of the water.

“C’mon! Go up!” She flailed in the water, flustered.
